I would like my teeth whitened, but they are already quite sensitive. Will the whitening treatment make them worse?

One of the side effects of tooth whitening is that it may cause tooth sensitivity. This is usually transitory and diminishes over a short period of time eg up to a couple of days (although it can last longer).

Certain desensitising agents, such as toothpastes, mousses, gels and liquids can be used to help alleviate the sensitivity.

However, there are different reasons why teeth may become sensitive, and it is advisable that you visit your dentist who will discuss any sensitivity issues with you and recommend an appropriate treatment.
