The rise of men having cosmetic surgery has dominated the press and it is reported that over the next year the number of male patients having surgery will increase by over 40 per cent. Leading cosmetic surgeons Dr Roberto Viel and his brother Dr Maurizio Viel of the London Center for Aesthetic Surgery explain why and what these men are looking for

Dr Roberto Viel and his brother Dr Maurizio Viel have been practising cosmetic surgery for over twenty years and they are recognised all over the world as pioneers in their industry and have been the first to introduce many revolutionary procedures to the field of cosmetic/aesthetic surgery.

Since they arrived on Harley Street they have become the surgeons of choice for male patients and from 1990 to today they still see more male patients than the majority of cosmetic surgeons and, while the majority of their patients are female, male patients account for roughly 35 per cent of their business.

The increase in the number of male patients that the brothers see is partly due to the fact that they were the first to introduce the penoplasty procedure of lengthening and enlarging the penis, but it is also as a result of the increase in the number of men wanting to have cosmetic/aesthetic procedures.

Over the last few years cosmetic surgery has become more accepted by society and the number of both men and women having procedures has increased. Traditionally cosmetic surgery was always a field of medicine that was more favoured by women, however as men realise and understand he need to look and feel better,they have become much more open to all aspects of male grooming from hair and teeth, to fitness, nutrition, cosmetic products, Botox and surgicaland non-surgical procedures.

Dr Maurizio Viel says “As women spend time and effort making themselves look the best they can, men have followed this example and have recognised that in the world today they need to take better care of themselves and be more concerned with how they look.”

Women’s expectations of men, their appearance and their grooming has changed and now they expect their men to look better and take better care of themselves, naturally drawing comparisons to who they see and read about within the media.

Roberto and Maurizio continue to see many patients for the penoplasty procedure but in addition to this they now perform many other surgical and non-surgical procedures on men. Roberto says “the most common procedures we perform on male patients in addition to the penoplasty procedure are fat removal and facial rejuvenation.

We have a revolutionary new procedure for fat removal called the Vaser Intelligent Lipo system and again our facial rejuvenation procedure, the Volumetric Vertical Face Lift (VVL), is at the forefront of technology.”

Both of these procedures were pioneered by the brothers and, always being the first to offer the latest in treatments, they are now pioneering the most recent procedure for penis enlargement using Macrolane by Q-Med.

Preferred procedures

The Viel brothers recognise that male patients want the highest level of results but less downtime and less invasive procedures.

The intelligent lipo system by Vaser

This is without doubt the next generation of cosmetic surgery;a gentle technology that allows the precise removal of unwanted fat from your body. What distinguishes LipoSelection from the traditional liposuction method is its ability to differentiate and selectively remove fat from the body without harming the surrounding tissues such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues.

The ultrasonic energy simply bounces off these healthy and important issues while specifically targeting and dissolving the less structured fat cells unlike the traditional method of liposuction. The procedure has any benefits and advantages over traditional methods; the major one being that it is far less traumatic to the body. The Volumetric Vertical Facelift – VVL

The Viels have pioneered a brand new procedure called the Volumetric Vertical Lift that has evolved from the MACS facelift and from Lipo Fixing and combines aspects from both of these treatments. It’s a new take on the traditional facelift and and advance in less invasive surgical facial rejuvenation. This achieves a more natural appearance with more volume in the face.

The Volumetric Vertical Lift is simple and effective facelift that is designed to lift the lower two-thirds of the face at the same time as replacing the face’s natural volume. Traditional methods have pulled the face backwards and this creates the ‘wind tunnel’ look.

The VVL is a minimal access lift that pulls the lower two-thirds of the face upwards; gravity does not pull you backwards, so to rejuvenate the face the lift must be vertical not horizontal which is often the mistake.

A limited amount of excess skin is removed, and nothing but a natural look with an inconspicuous scar in the crease in the front of the ear and in the hairline above the ar remains. In addition to the lower two thirds of the face being lifted, autologous fat (the patient’s own fat) is injected into the upper third of the face to produce an uplift effect, thereby reshaping the face for a more youthful look.

Autologous fat transfer is today’s number one filling agent for loss of volume and creases on our faces. As we age the first thing to go is fat. Quite simply it gets absorbed by the body in the normal ageing process and no amount of pulling or applying of creams will replace this lost fat, so for a complete rejuvenation of the face, fat is a vital ingredient.

Macrolane to the penis

The latest advancement inmale cosmetic procedure is penis enlargement using the Macrolane gel by Q-Med.

As demand for less invasive treatments increases the use of dermal  fillers is becoming an everyday part of cosmetic surgery. Macrolane is a dermal filler that is used for body contouring and is well known as the evolutionary procedure for enhancing the breasts.

However, it is now being used in other parts of the body for reshaping and contouring including the penis and it replaces the old enlargement procedure which used a patient’s own fat to increase the penis girth. Now in the same way that fat was injected in to the penis to increase girth the enlargement is now done with Macrolane.

There are many advantages to this new procedure: it takes just 20 minutes and is performed under local anaesthetic and one can resume normal activity in a couple of days and can expect to be back to sexual activities’in about three weeks. The results are completely natural,both visually and, perhaps more importantly, to the touch compared to the traditional method.

Macrolane is a one off treatment that lasts up to 18 months so if you don’t like the results the effect will wear off in just over a year.
