View your body as a temple? Live as organically as possible but still want to fight the signs of ageing? The next generation of dermal fillers are the purest yet

It is a big leap from a few facials and maybe a bit of microdermabrasion to taking the plunge towards dermal fillers or Botox. One of our major fears is about putting alien products in our body (and particularly our face), and the long-term effects they may have.

But now we have the next generation of dermal fillers that are cleaner with fewer side effects that still give phenomenal results where you need it. Cosmetic doctor Professor Harryono Judodihardjo of the Cellite Clinic in Cardiff has been using Teosyal for over three years since its introduction in to the UK and what he really likes about the product compared to other hyaluronic acid fillers is that the after effects disappear within three hours whereas with other dermal fillers the immediate redness, swelling, increased heat and tenderness can last up to two to three days after.

"This is truly an instant result filler. For the majority of people this has no impact on your social or work life.

"If you have the treatment in the morning, then you can be out and about by the evening, showing your face to the world, with no visible signs of having had a treatment," he said.

In the long term Teosyal performs excellently as well. There are two types of complications as a result of using hyaluronic acid fillers; the first is the immediate reaction which is the redness and swelling.

"The other type is what we call the delayed reaction which normally happens a few weeks to a few months later," Professor Judodihardjo explains.

"Some dermal fillers can cause a reaction in the body and this inflammation is what we call a granuloma or a hardening.

"Teosyal is a very clean product and so far I've never seen any complications like this."

Come clean

The most important thing to highlight about Teosyal, according to Professor Judodihardjo, is that it has a very low protein residue. In the past hyaluronic acid was derived from animal products, but the new fillers are no longer animal based. Now, hyaluronic acid is produced by fermenting sugar by the addition of bacteria. This bacteria then has to be removed to make the product safe as it is the endotoxins in the bacteria that causes allergic reactions.

"What makes Teosyal a stand out product in my eyes, is that its filtration process is second to none. It is a very pure product," asserts Professor Judodihardjo.

The pros of hyaluronic acid fillers

Naturally present in the skin, hyaluronic acid preserves moisturising levels in the skin and boosts tone. It is a powerful, natural moisturising agent which traps up to 1000 times its weight in water. As we age, the level of naturally occurring hyaluronic acid decreases. As a result, the skin becomes dry, fragile and wrinkles appear. The tissues in the skin progressively weaken and the skin loses its tone and elasticity. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers effectively alleviate this deficiency and can combat the signs of ageing.

Like all other hyaluronic acid fillers on the market, Teosyal also can be reversed in the unlikely case that there is a reaction or if the patient does not like the effect. Professor Judodihardjo is very keen on this.

"Often I have women coming to my clinic who want to have lip enhancement but are worried about ending up with a trout pout. I explain that if they are unhappy with the results this is a really flexible product and it is easy to manipulate with massage if it seems uneven. Furthermore, if there is a reaction or they are just not happy then we can inject the area with an enzyme which digests the hyaluronic acid."

Safety should always be the watchword when considering any procedure and the new, cleaner products on the market make dermal fillers the perfect tool in the anti-ageing battle.
