Dr Tracey Bell explains how she is mixing up treatments such as lasers and peels to provide patients with winning combinations
Non-surgical treatments continue to increase in popularity because they can often provide better results, are often much less costly and can reduce or even eliminate patient downtime. But long gone are the days when a bit of Botox or dermal filler would do. Treatments that combine the use of peels, lasers, fillers and Botox, which work on the inside and outside, provide effective long-term results.
I have used combination therapies for almost my whole working career, but now, with advances in light therapies and laser and radiofrequency treatments, I have been able to develop a series of treatment combinations that give my clients the results they are looking for.
My philosophy that I always follow for facial rejuvenation is Canvas, Lines and Volume: I look at the canvas which is the colour, texture and complexion of the skin, I note areas of fine lines and wrinkles and the volume is the contours of our facial shape, which is affected by loss of fat and plumpness as we age.
This is a combination treatment used to deliver body shaping, and fat and cellulite reduction over a period of 12 weeks. The technique is made up of a number of different treatments:
- Radiofrequency (Accent RF)
- Pixel laser
- Powerplate (for the body)
These four treatments and technologies work incredibly well together because they offer a combination of body shaping solutions that are tailored to contour, reshape and lift stubborn areas of fat.
Initially, the Liposound device is used, which involves the application of a painless strip of conductors that deliver ultrasound to stimulate the production of noradrenalin. Noradrenalin is a hormone produced by the adrenal gland, which activates the sympathetic nervous system, increasing the concentration of glucose in the blood. This, in turn, helps to break down the fat cells by stimulating the body's natural lipolysis process.
During this process, free fatty acids are released into the bloodstream and circulate throughout the body. Then the Liposound technology is fused with the Radiofrequency treatment which delivers focused thermal energy to the deep dermal tissues to produce a controlled inflammation. The result is both an expansion and production of new collagen, which has slimming, toning and firming results.
The Techno Beauty Blast
This is a customised combination of technical applications which produces fantastic results in reversing the ageing process. The state-of-the-art treatment reduces lines and wrinkles; illuminates, firms and tones the skin; and can eradicate scars. This treatment combines:
- Intense pulsed light (IPL)
- Erbium Yag
This triple laser technique combines intense pulsed light, radiofrequency and Erbium Yag to treat a range of skin problems with light at different levels. The full face can be treated as well as a focus on the peri-oral or peri-orbital area or neck regions.
The Lite PeelTM
The Lite Peel involves:
- Pixel laser
- Erbium Yag
- Age Management Peel
A rejuvenating Pixel laser peel harnesses the effects of thermal dynamic energy coupled with mild micro beam ablation for subtle yet revitalising results. This combination treatment sees the effects of the Erbium Yag laser, coupled with the Age Management Peel.
The peel is tailored to visibly reduce the signs of ageing by stimulating cell turnover and tightening skin tissue by removing unwanted dead skin cells to improve tone. I believe that ensuring that the skin is fully prepared is essential for excellent overall results when using the latest laser technology.
The T LaseTM
This laser peel is extremely effective for improving skin tone, texture and tightening around the eye and mouth areas, giving the patient a younger looking skin. The process uses:
- Alpha hydroxy peels
- Erbium laser
The laser and peel are combined to work wonders to improve the appearance, tone and texture of the peri-oral and peri-orbital areas.
This combination procedure can be delivered as a one-off treatment for the mouth and eye areas. Alternatively, it can be carried out once a month for three months to successfully diminish fine lines and wrinkles, improve collagen production and cellular turnover and to generally rejuvenate the skin's appearance, making the patient look younger.
New techniques, technologies, products and services are continually flooding the market and understanding their applications and diversity is essential. The purpose of combination treatments is to use the knowledge and capabilities of the practitioner and the technologies available in producing an overall treatment plan. The term ‘combination treatment' does not necessarily mean fixed treatments, it can and is adjusted to suit each individual patient - a winning combination any time.
