In the current financial climate, treatments that offer longer results are becoming increasingly popular. Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetics Guide investigates Radiesse

Although the UK is now officially out of recession, we all want to get the most for our money and that extends to cosmetic treatments. Temporary dermal fillers are a fantastic way of turning back the clock without the risks associated with more permanent, invasive procedures but there is a cost implication. Radiesse is a unique dermal filler with longer-lasting results that can reduce the need for retreatment, which saves you time and money compared to other fillers.

Radiesse is made from synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water based gel carrier. Upon injection, the gel carrier acts as an instant filler, resulting in an immediate correction.

Nurse practitioner Emeline Hartley of Cosmetic Healthcare Solutions is a highly experienced cosmetic healthcare specialist, with over 14 years experience. "I've been offering Radiesse to my patients for about four years now. I love the fact that you get immediate results and that it stays where it is supposed to so you always have a predictable outcome, but what I love about it most is that it stimulates your own collagen production. Your body starts to work for you."

Due to its unique product characteristics, about 25 per cent to 30 per cent less material is needed to obtain the same optimal correction compared to a treatment with hyaluronic acid.

The gel carrier dissolves over a few months as fibroblasts from new natural collagen are produced, resulting in increased volume and smoother skin. By stimulating collagenesis - the production of new collagen - Radiesse ensures longer-lasting results compared to other dermal fillers and it is this aspect of Radiesse that means it is in increasing demand.

As Emeline Hartley explains: "Clients love its longevity. In the current financial climate people are more cost conscious so Radiesse's longer-lasting results mean it is increasingly popular.

"Clients are coming back every 12 to 18 months on average depending on the individual patient. And some patients are even going up to two years between cheek enhancement treatments."

Restoring the ‘triangle of beauty'
This concept is often discussed in beauty magazines and TV shows. The ‘triangle of beauty' runs from your cheekbones down to your chin. As long as this triangle remains well intact, the face will generally have a youthful appearance, but as we age and as we lose facial volume, gravity takes over and turns this triangle into the shape of a trapezium.

Radiesse is the ideal filler to help you restore the soft youthful fullness in the face. Due to its excellent volumising and lifting capabilities, it is the perfect solution for restoring a youthful shape to the face.

Young versus old
As the years go by, our face loses its volume, our skin loses its elasticity, and the muscle activity in our face changes as gravity takes its toll. As a result, the ageing face will start to show ‘old and tired' features: less prominent cheekbones, cheeks with less volume, a weaker looking jawline, folds and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds, marionette lines and frown lines.

Radiesse can tackle all these problems but it is also a great treatment for younger patients because of its natural look. Emeline Hartley explains: "Radiesse gives a very subtle enhancement. People think that cheek treatments are just for older women or men who have lost volume in the midface but I treat a lot of younger celebrities and models who wish to have more rounded and uplifted cheeks."
