With new treatments becoming available all the time, Christine Fittus from The Linea Clinic in Malvern explains why she decided to introduce i-lipo to the range she offers
We all want a quick fix to remove fat but one treatment I have found that really does work is the i-lipo. The i-lipo uses a low level of visible red laser light to stimulate the body's natural processes that empty the stored fat contents inside fat cells.
The laser light is gently absorbed into the individual fat cells in the treatment area, temporarily opening pores in the cell wall. This allows the cell contents - the intra-cellular fat - to escape without affecting the neighbouring structures such as skin, blood vessels and peripheral nerves.
The contents of the cell are then collected by the lymphatic system and transported to the areas of the body where they can be metabolised into energy during exercise.
This metabolism of the contents permanently removes them from the body, leaving smaller fat cells and so giving you inch loss. As with any new treatment, patients need to have a clear idea of what it entails and the results it can achieve, so below I have answered some of the questions I am commonly asked.
How many treatments will I need?
A course of eight treatments is recommended per body area to see maximum results. These should be taken twice weekly at regular intervals.
Who is it most suitable for and which areas will it treat best?
The i-lipo is suitable for men and women, achieving equally good results on both. Treatment can be carried out on the calves, knees, thighs, buttocks, stomach, arms and chin.
Does it hurt?
The i-lipo is a low level laser or cold laser and most people feel very little discomfort. The treatment is comfortable and relaxing with just a slight warm feeling where the pads are in contact with the skin.
What sort of inch loss can be achieved?
This varies from person to person depending on the size of treatment area. Results will be greatly improved if you commit to a healthy diet and exercise programme. It is important to exercise on the day of treatment, enabling the released fat to be used up as energy.
Is there anyone who can't have the treatment?
As with most treatments at our clinic there are a few medical conditions that would stop us from performing the treatment. A full medical questionnaire will be filled in at the consultation and this will determine your suitability for treatment.
How long will the results last?
Booster treatments are not necessarily needed with i-lipo, as long as your weight, diet and exercise regime are maintained. One treatment performed now and again is a good incentive to keep you in control.
