Three of the top cosmetic doctors in the business explain why the new micro-needling treatment is the genuine article

With summer just around the corner we all feel as if we should be turning our attention to our wobbly bits to ensure that we're in tip-top condition for when they're on display.

It's all very easy to concentrate on losing weight, toning and firming up, but what then? What about those unsightly stretch marks and scars that make some of us feel so self conscious about stripping off?

One procedure that is getting everyone talking is the Genuine Dermaroller Therapy, which is a top favourite with celebs and us mere mortals alike and seems to be the hot facial and body treatment for the summer.

As Dr Sach Mohan, Non- Surgical Director at Transform Group, explains: "In virtually every clinic in the land, lasers sit redundant throughout the summer. Genuine Dermaroller offers an alternative treatment to lasers, and it can treat skin of any colour. Due to the preservation of the epidermis, it is the ideal summer treatment as patients aren't rendered photosensitive."

Cosmetic doctor and clinical director of Medizen, Dr David Eccleston  expands on this aspect: "With summer on its way (supposedly), the downside of laser therapy is the increased photosensitivity after the more aggressive facial resurfacing procedures, which can be mitigated to a degree by sun avoidance and high SPF sunscreens.

The Dermaroller does not have this disadvantage, and a fairly aggressive treatment will still allow the patient to enjoy a normal summer holiday, though of course still with sunscreen protection."

How does it work?
The Genuine Dermaroller itself is a hand-held medical device of the highest quality, which penetrates the skin producing thousands of microscopic needle-columns, to encourage the skin's natural repair process.

It is certified as a sterile single-use medical device and only available from trained and authorised medical practitioners and clinics. This guarantees enhanced quality and safety and no other skin needle-rollers can meet these standards.

As the skin regenerates, new collagen and skin cells are formed, which can dramatically improve skin quality and minimise flaws. Patients will notice a difference in the texture and tone of their skin in the initial weeks after having the treatment.

A major factor in the Dermaroller's success seems to be the lack of downtime when compared to other treatments. "I usually perform treatments on a Friday, and the client can return to normal activities on Monday with little or no make-up," Dr David Eccleston explains.

At six weeks, skin will start to tighten, with flaws dramatically reduced, and this process will continue over the following months. For deeper scarring and stretch marks, a minimum course of three treatments is recommended to see optimum results.

Tricky customer
There are areas that are notoriously difficult to treat and practitioners are always on the hunt for a treatment that can provide good results. Dr Tracy Mountford from the Cosmetic Skin Clinic was looking for a treatment to improve texture under the eyes.

"This is a notoriously hard area to treat by any other means," says Dr Mountford. "We can fill lines with dermal fillers, we can relax lines and re-contour the face, however fine textural problems and general poor quality of skin are hard things to address. Genuine Dermaroller Therapy addresses these."

Dr David Eccleston also likes the Genuine Dermaroller for its ability to deal with hard to treat areas. "I have had considerable success in the treatment of the dreaded ‘turkey neck', with marked improvement in the appearance of horizontal neck creases, and in the treatment of abdominal stretch marks."

In combination
"The results are even more impressive when used in synergy with other hydrating treatments," claims Dr Mountford. "As Dermaroller stimulates new collagen growth, we have found that when it's used in conjunction with Restylane Vital it hydrates the skin as well, giving a double whammy on overall tone and texture. We're able to address more problems in one treatment than we can with a lot of other procedures."

So for a great treatment to take you through the summer months or to get a bit more from your usual beauty regime, Genuine Dermaroller could be the answer.
