With growing awareness of prematurely ageing skin caused by sun damage, we lavish care on our faces all year around, taking care particularly in the summer to increase sun protection against its harmful rays. But more often than not, we tend to overlook our décolletage.

At the end of the summer, particularly if you have holidayed in the sun, you can find that your décolletage looks dehydrated and has lost its firm appearance. To add insult to injury, crinkly little lines have appeared from nowhere. Your face may radiate a youthful glow and good skin tone, but your décolletage gives the game away.

Sadly, the chest area seems to get missed out of almost every woman’s skincare routine – we massage body cream everywhere from the chest down, and our facial moisturiser stops at the neck. But really, what’s the point in spending so much time and money on soft, youthful skin everywhere else, if your chest betrays your true age?

Dr Roger Amar had been seeking a solution to the problem of ageing skin on the décolletage for some time, but it is a delicate area of the body to treat and although there are many methods to prevent premature wrinkles from forming – the most important of which being, you guessed it, sun block! – there are very few procedures available to effectively reverse the damage that has already been done.

However, recently, Dr Amar discovered Bel-Escote, a treatment system consisting of micro-injections of hyaluronic acid, which works to rehydrate and plump the skin, leaving it visibly softer, smoother and firmer.

Bel-Escote is a safe and effective treatment solution to counter the effects of sun damage by boosting the skin’s natural hydration at a level in the dermis where it is needed. The treatment combines hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin and glycerol, to attract water.

“Hyaluronic acid and glycerol combine to work like a dermal filler, restoring the skin and erasing wrinkles immediately,” says Dr Amar. “This makes them the perfect mix to achieve a more youthful décolletage that will last between three and six months.”

Bel-Escote is especially formulated for sensitive skin areas, such as the décolletage. It stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to keep our skin looking plump and hydrated and so diminishes the appearance of fine, crêpey lines caused by sun damage.

It is a smooth, pure crystal clear hyaluronic acid (HA) gel which is injected into the skin to replenish the skin’s own HA which attracts water in the skin and plays an important part in the skin’s hydration system.

The Bel-Escote treatment comprises a series of very fine micro-injections with a pen type injector, the very latest in Swiss technology. “With a conventional syringe, it would not be possible for such microscopic droplets to penetrate the skin,” explains Dr Amar, “and we wouldn’t be able to fill the wrinkles with such extraordinary precision.”

The Bel-Escote system consists of a combination of these injections and the application of a silicone pad at night time. This pad is smooth and malleable enough to adapt naturally to your movements during the night – however it is also firm enough to prevent new wrinkles from forming.

Because Bel-Escote releases hyaluronic acid gradually over a period of time, the benefits of this treatment generally last for several months and can be maintained by use of the silicone pad and repeat treatments once or twice a year. But typically if your skin is good in condition and you protect your skin from the sun, you will be able to maintain the revitalised appearance of your skin with an annual maintenance treatment.
