Dr Dinesh Maini at Zenith Cosmetic Clinics explains the facts behind the fat

What is fat?

You might well ask what it is all about as you struggle to fasten those jeans that fit you last year or those man boobs that have bothered you since teenage years are now forcing you to keep your shirt on!

What we are discussing as we all know is called adipose tissue, which is the medical term for fat.

The base unit of this collection is the humble fat cell or adipocyte. It holds the fat in a semi-liquid state, there is a big droplet in each one and they are typically 0.1mm in size.  Millions of them bunch together and are held in place by fibrous strands.

Why do we have it?

As everyone knows, fat accumulates due to excess calorie intake. Our bodies do not like waste and efficiently store away any spare energy from our food (or drink) as fat. Obviously this is a very useful adaptive phenomenon and was helpful for survival in the days before Mars bars and fresh cream cakes. Nowadays, however, it is just a pain for most of us!

There are some unfortunate individuals who are quite slim all over but have a noticeable double chin or outer thighs, ankles & man boobs, while being a normal weight for their frame and build. These individuals are perfect candidates for BodyTite.

Fat Distribution - where is it?

Fat is deposited in a few different places: under the skin (subcutaneous fat), the outer or inner thighs, arms, back, flanks, neck. It can also be found around organs such as the liver. This is known as visceral fat. There is fat also in bone marrow and female breasts.

How do you get rid of it?

So you have spent a year in the gym and cut down your intake but you still have the fat. What do you do? Well, it depends where it is and how much you have.

Subcutaneous fat (you can pinch it) - If you have a little on your chin or even up to five or six pints on your belly, Bodytite is the best system in the world at present. It gently melts the fat and removes the resulting oil. It also tightens the skin.

If you are overweight but have a large deposit of subcutaneous fat, this can be removed before, during or after your weight loss therapy.

Visceral fat (big belly but when you pull it in and pinch there is nothing to pinch) - only one therapy works - calorie restriction. There are two ways of doing this. Either reduce calories across the board but predominantly from fat OR reduce carbohydrate intake to very low levels.

Alizonne is a medically formulated and doctor led therapy with a high rate of success in producing rapid and sustained life changing weight loss - you too can lose five stone in 10 weeks.

The difference with Alizonne is that the system is carefully managed and unlike most other weight loss programmes you are highly unlikely to regain your weight. Alizonne provides perfect nutritional balance as well as weekly additional fat reduction & skin tightening treatments where the vast majority of patients get no loose skin. There is no muscle loss and most people feel very well from day one.
