Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetics Guide explores the latest treatment combination that promises to give you back your glow

If excess partying and lack of sleep over the festive season has left your skin tired and dehydrated, you have no doubt spent the past month searching for the perfect product or procedure to bring it back to life.

The new big thing in aesthetics is combining medical microneedling with hyaluronic acid micro-injections. Here we look at the latest combo to hit the market, Viscoderm and Dermal Roller SR™, which promises to give your skin back its va-vavoom.

Viscoderm

Viscoderm is based on hyaluronic acid and is administered in micro-injections across the whole face to create full facial rejuvenation, rather than filling in individual lines and wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid effectively and naturally rejuvenates the skin and is used to achieve good skin quality and texture. Viscoderm restores the levels of hyaluronic acid in the skin, which regenerates and rehydrates the epidermis. It can be injected or applied topically on the face, neck, décolleté and the back of the hands.

After treatment, the water content of the skin is 30 per cent higher, and the skin is up to 80 per cent more supple. Another significant result of the application of Viscoderm into the skin is effective protection against harmful external factors.

Viscoderm is available in three different hyaluronic acid concentration formulations depending on the skin type, application zone and desired result. It can be used as a preventative measure and rehydrating tool for younger skins and to reverse damage in mature skins.

Dermal Roller SR™

Dermal Roller SR™ is a precision engineered hand held medical device that helps combat the appearance of scars, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, stretch marks, cellulite and even hair loss.

Skin-needling triggers the body’s self-repair mechanism by creating micro-injuries in the skin. This encourages new collagen and elastin production and helps to reduce the appearance of skin imperfections, making the skin smoother, brighter, healthier and younger looking, with practically no downtime.

The micro-channels created by the roller seal within hours after application – long enough for new collagen structures to form within the lower layers of the skin and short enough to allow you to resume normal schedules quickly.

Consecutive skin-needling sessions continue to promote new collagen production, with impressive results on common skin conditions such as fine lines and wrinkles, indented scars, enlarged pores and hyperpigmentation.

Dermal Roller SR™ is certified as a sterile single-use medical device and treatment is only available from authorised salons or clinics.

Mixing it up

The idea to combine these two treatments came from Boston Aesthetics Clinic (UK) Ltd., who realised that, whilst each procedure is highly effective in itself, a combination of the two would produce even better results. T

he treatment is suitable for use on the hands, face and chest and the result is a glowing, even complexion, with smoother, plumper, firmer skin.

First, the Viscoderm is injected into the skin in a series of microinjections across all areas of the face, from the upper face and brow line, mid face, across the cheeks and nose, to the lower face and chin. This increases the levels of hyaluronic acid in the skin, to hydrate and plump the surface.

Then the skin needling commences. The practitioner makes sweeping movements across all areas of the face with the needle roller, to increase collagen production and firm up the skin.

The micro-needling also helps the Viscoderm to get to work faster. A numbing cream is applied before treatment commences, so neither treatment is painful, although you may find that your skin is quite sensitive afterwards.

Some people may experience a small degree of swelling on the treatment area, but this will usually disappear after 48 to 72 hours.

Once the immediate after effects have worn off, however, you will start to see your skin revealing a lustre you had thought long gone. Although results can usually be seen after the first treatment, Boston Aesthetics Clinic (UK) Ltd. recommends a course of three treatments spaced six weeks apart for a really stunning result. Thereafter, a return visit is recommended every six months to maintain the effects.

So if you want to take away that tired look and rid yourself of dull, dried out skin, it might just be that the best way to bring back your glow is to mix things up with this brand new combination treatment.
