Although a few women might demand the 'stuck-on look' when it comes to boob jobs, most of us want to avoid anything so obvious.

Leading German plastic surgeon Dr Dirk Kremer introduces to the UK his split muscle breast augmentation technique that guarantees a natural appearance Without naming names, we've all seen celebrities whose breast augmentation or boob jobs resemble nothing less than tennis balls bolted on to their chests. CosmeticSurgeryToday.co.uk meets one plastic surgeon who is working hard to introduce to the UK the opposite aesthetic – beautiful and, most importantly, natural looking breasts.

A leading cosmetic plastic surgeon in Germany, Dr Dirk Kremer has recently opened his UK private practice, bringing with him the latest breast enlargement technique – the split pectoral muscle approach.

The technique

Trained in Los Angeles, Dr Kremer perfected this groundbreaking technique at his clinic in Munich. Traditionally, implants are either placed on top of the chest muscle (supra pectoral) or underneath (sub pectoral); this new procedure involves horizontal splitting of the pectoral muscle just wide enough to insert the upper part of a round implant: the top part of the implant is hidden under the muscle, leaving the lower part lying on top of the muscle yet still under the skin and breast tissue.

This means that the upper outline of the implant is hidden whilst the fullness in the lower part is accentuated. The success of this procedure relies a great deal on the skill of the surgeon, as accurate placement of the cut is vital to the overall result, avoiding breasts that are too close together or too wide apart.

The benefits

* Great for skinny women, a high risk group for ending up with 'tennis ball' chest

On a very slim woman there is the risk that the implant can have a very visible outline and, in some cases, even end up with a rippling-like effect. This new technique hides the top part of the implant so this problem is avoided and the cleavage is just left with a very natural looking curve

* Improved projection

When an implant is placed totally under the muscle it can 'flatten' whereas, in the split muscle technique, the bottom half is above the muscle so it appears full and rounded.

Also the weight of the muscle on the top half of the implant places pressure on the silicone gel in the lower half of the round implant, giving a very natural look with full projection

* The ouch factor

The split muscle technique is reported to be much less painful compared to when implants are placed totally under the muscle

* Size does matter

Commonly, implants are placed in a pocket that is made underneath the muscle which limits the extent of the enlargement but, as the bottom half of the implant sits above the muscle in this new technique, there is no limit to the size of the implant

* No damage

Any worries that this procedure could damage the muscle are unfounded. The muscle continues to work with the same strength and vigour as it did before the operation.

The surgeon

A breast specialist, Dr Dirk Kremer combines the best that Europe and the US have to offer in terms of aesthetics, skill and experience. He has introduced this groundbreaking new technique to the UK because, in his words, “There’s nothing worse than seeing a woman with obviously false breasts and that telltale implant outline in their cleavage”. Dr Kremer continues: “My approach results in beautiful, natural looking breasts with a great deal of projection. And surely that's what every woman wants."
