COSMETIC SURGERY

AFTER HAVING 3 CHILDREN MY BODY WAS IN DESPERATE NEED OF REPAIR. I HAD A SAGGY BELLY AND MY BOOBS HAD GIVEN UP AND GONE SOUTH. I TRIED GYM EXERCISE AND YOGA AS WELL AS RUNNING AROUND AFTER THE CHILDREN AND NOTHING SEEMED TO HELP THE SAGGY SKIN. I BECAME REALLY DEPRESSED ABOUT MY BODY AND I FELT UNATTRACTIVE AND DISGUSTED WITH THE WAY I LOOKED. I WOULD NEVER CHANGE HAVING CHILDREN BUT YOUR BODY IS NEVER THE SAME AGAIN AFTER GIVING BIRTH. IT EVEN GOT TO THE STAGE WHERE I GOT DRESSED AND UNDRESSED IN THE DARK SO MY PARTNER WOULD NOT SEE MY BODY. MY PARTNER WAS REALLY GOOD AND SAID THAT I WAS BEAUTIFUL THE WAY I WAS AND THAT THE SAGGY SKIN AND STRETCH MARKS WERE LIFE LINES AND PART OF WHAT MAKES ME SPECIAL TO HIM BUT EVEN SO I DID NOT FEEL HAPPY IN MYSELF. I DECIDED THAT WAS GOING TO GET SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THE WAY I LOOKED AND DECIDED THAT I WOULD GO TO SEE A SURGEON AND SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. IT WAS A REALLY GOOD EXPERIENCE AS THERE WAS NO PRESSURE TO HAVE SURGERY AT ALL,I WENT WITH A LIST OF QUESTIONS AND THE PRO'S AND CON'S WERE EXPLAINED TO ME AND I WAS GIVEN REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS. AFTER THE INITIAL CONSULTATION I THOUGHT ABOUT HAVING SURGERY FOR A FURTHER WEEK THEN CALLED BACK THE CLINIC. I BOOKED TO HAVE A TUMMY TUCK AND BREAST AUGMENTATION AND FROM THE MOMENT I ARRIVED TO THE MINUTE I LEFT THE NURSES COULD NOT DO ENOUGH FOR ME.I WAS REALLY WELL LOOKED AFTER THROUGHOUT AND THE OUTCOME IS FANTASTIC. MY TUMMY IS TIGHT AGAIN AND I NO LONGER HAVE AN APRON OF SKIN OR A MUFFIN TOP!! MY BOOBS ARE PERT AND LOOK LIKE THEY DID BEFORE CHILDREN. I FEEL CONFIDENT AND COMFORTABLE IN MY CLOTHES. I FEEL SEXY AND NO LONGER HAVE TO GET DRESSED IN THE DARK. HAVING THE SURGERY HAS GIVEN ME A NEW LEASE OF LIFE AND I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.

IS THERE ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE THAT HAS HAD SURGERY AFTER CHILDREN AND FEEL AS GOOD AS I DO smile

SPK TO YOU ALL SOON X

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

i have had botox and semi-permanent make-up but never anything big done. I have considered breast augmentation and even had a consultation but decided it wasn't really the right time for me. But i think it is certainly something i will look into in the future as i have had such great experiences with what i have had done so far

how did you find the experience? i was told after the op it can be quite sore or painful for a few days, and you have to be careful with them for a while!

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

i havent had anything done but i'm looking into cosmetic surgery more and more as stressful work etc takes its toll on how i look

i think especially with the level of expertise today that surgery is becoming a more viable option for loads of people who probably never thought of it before - you can even get a bit of lipo on your lunchbreak now!!! lol

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

i have read lots about macrolane as one of my friends had it a few months ago, and i've been thinkng about it ever since
her results were fantastic, she went up a cup size and seemed like a changed person - she was so confident and loved wearing new clothes to show of her new boobs! smile

apparently it only takes an hour or so and is much less painful than implants, although i've also read you need to have it 'topped up'? does anyone know how often and how much this all costs?

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

I had macrolane as i've never had much of a cleavage and could never fill bras the way i wanted too
I was really pleased with the result, my boobs looked great and i had such a confidence boost - basically i went in wiithout a bust and come out with one! smile

the surgeon injected 100ml in each breast and then manipulated it to get a nice shape - it took less than an hour! i was given painkillers to take for the first night but didnt need to take them after that

i'll be back to get mine done again ready for summer!!

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

wow! that sounds fantastic

i have been thinking - though not too seriously - about having my boobs done for a while.

Macrolane sounds a bit like its a tester doesnt it? Boost your cup size by maybe one or one and a half for a few months, see how it looks and how you feel about them, then they go back to normal. Like a non-permanenet boob job...

slinkymalinky - having them done for summer sounds like a great idea too!! i assume there is no scarring or operation, is it really just an injection of the stuff?

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

As it is only an injection there is no scarring, but usually lasts longer than a few months, more like 6-8 i think.

But you have to have it topped up when your boobs go saggy and flat again - well i suppose you dont have to but you'd be really dissappointed with a flat chest after a great cleavage for a few months wouldnt you!

has anyone else had Macrolane, or has anyone considered a boob job and/or Macrolane and chosen one over the other? whats the difference between just having macrolane and having a full boob job?

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

No scarring is obviuosly very important, so it's great that Macrolane doesn't leave you with any.

I've researched boob jobs a little bit, but the long recovery time and scarring seems like a massive negative if you can get macrolane without all that to worry about

and of course macrolane is much cheaper than a boob job, but dont you think it seems like a 'quick fix' to no bust, flat chests.

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

Hi,

I agree with botox mum, it does sound a bit like a 'quick fix' solution. Surely if you're unhappy with your breasts you're unhappy with them, and getting a temporary solution won't make that problem go away.

What do you think?

Problems with your body image surely lie deeper than a temporary bigger bust. Maybe people shoudl learn to be happy with what they have got and learn to live with it, and not be so desperate and dependant for fake/temporary/unnatural solutions

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

I think you can learn to be happy with what you've got but where's the harm in enhancing what you've got? it's your body after all

If having some surgery will make you feel better than learning to live with what you have, i dont see a problem with that

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

why cant people be happy with what they have?

why would you want to put unnatural and potentially dangerous prodcuts and substances into your body - you can read hundreds of cosmetic surgery 'horror' stories and you have to ask is it worth the risk? surely you can never be 100% absolutely certain that something won't go wrong.

plastic or cosmetic surgery is still major SURGERY and has serious risks. i think what some women put themsleves through is dangerous and stupid

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

i agree Peaches, there can never be a 100% guarantee on a major surgical procedure - they all carry risks and could potentially go wrong

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

do you think everyone who has cosmetic or plastic surgery is vain? feeling like they need to conform to a sterotype of what a beautiful woman looks like? people do it for loads of reasons, medical aswell, not just pure vanity

do you have any arguments against teeth braces? how many millions of people have those to get nice straight teeth and perfect smile? are they vain? whats the difference, where do you draw the line?

surely you must understand that breast reductions can be for medical reasons, as can many other procedures

whoa! strayed a little of topic lol! but its interesting to read what you all think

of course there is a difference between someone having teeth braces and someone having a boob job, buts lets get back to macrolane and boobs shall we? lol

i've heard how some women worry for a week or so after the injeciton that there breast is quite hard and not the shape they imagined, but apparently this settles down after a while. has anyone experienced this? did you worry and how much did the surgeon tell you to expect this?

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

17th April 2009

Anne aged 53 Belfast

I came here with my husband a few weeks ago to see for myself what Praque was like and also to introduce

myself to Dr.Zuzana Cerna.  I had my consultation and pre-operative medical.  My first impression was how

professional and explanative she was of my procedure, face and neck lift. Dr. Cerna was so genuine and

sensitive to my needs.  She was also so very gentle.  She explained my procedure in detail.  I felt so at

ease with her and her staff.  I had no hesitation to fly back to Prague on 13 April and to have my procedure

on 14th April.
I had the procedure carried out on Tuesday 7.30am with no complications at all.  I was introduced to the

anaesthetist whow as charming as were the nurses at the clinic.  The nurse were so attentative, throughout

the night as I had to stay overnight.  Also Dr. Cerna keep checking on me and changing my bandages.

My husband collected me from the clinic which is approximately 2 mins walk from the apartment.  I recommend

apartment number 2 as it has a beautiful sunny balcony.  The apartments are so modern and clean, I felt at

home.  Bring your laptop as you can watch uk television on the internet.  On returning to the apartment which

is next door to Dr. Cernas surgery, she changed my bandages everyday.  I had swelling and bruising but that

is to be expected.  Yesterday 17.4, I went out for a walk with my husband and just wore a scarf on my head

and I felt great.

I would have no hesitation on recommending Dr. Cerna and her team at Laderma clinic in Prague to any of  my

family and friends.  I is now 23April and it has now been nine days post op.  I have bruising but still no

pain, but it can be covered up by makeup.  My husband says I look 10 years younger, he's very happy.

Every morning I wash my hair as Dr. Cerna told me to do this and I feel it is healing more everyday.  Every

evening myself and my husband go out for dinner, there are some lovely restaurants here.  Food and drink is

very cheap.  I still have no pain and cant believe how well everything has went.  No complications at all.

I will definitely be back in October to have my lower eyelids done.  I leave here on Saturday 25th April and

will miss this place, it is so friendly and interesting.

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

Hi, I am afraid my experience is to do with surgery disaster. In 2004 I went to the US and underwent major surgery, being midface lift, multiple facial implants and canthopexy. This was being done to rectify a very small problem caused by implants I had in 2002, which had to come out due to infection. Removal of the porex implants had slightly caused my face below the cheeks to narrow. The surgeon in the US said this was caused by tissue removal when the implants were taken out, and the surgery he proposed was to rectify this, and the canthopexy was to rectify a slight droop to the right eyelid. After he did the surgery the implants became infected once again, i ended up in intensive care here in the UK as the infection made my face ballon right up to the forehead. I was placed on antibiotic drip for a week, then flew back to Boston where the implants were removed. The infection burst open the surgery to my eyelids, I had a hole to the corner of the left eyelid, and the lid drooped, the surgeon placed a vertical wire to help support the lid and daily placed wadding in the hole whilst it healed. The right eyelid was left with a horrible indentation scar about an inch or so long. Without the implants my midface looked bad as the midface lift had left me with lumpy areas to the cheeks. When I pull up my cheeks from the eyelids they go back to their original desired position, and I am hoping there is a procedure that can achieve this effect. Things got much worse as in 2005 I found a surgeon here, a specilist for eyelids, he removed the vertical wire and used as a hanger cartidge from my ear as a graft to the lower left lid, but it was a terrible job as the graft was way too big, it is unsightly and left the lid so ridgid I cannot rub the eye, and worse of all it is painful. I was also stupid enough to let this surgeon inject subQ into my upper cheeks to try improve them, a procedure he had never done before and he made a mess of it, but at least the effect wore of after 6 months or so. I went back to him asking to remove the graft but he said it couldnt be taken out but said he would shave some off as it was large but was going to charge me another £2500, I declined. The final problem is with my upper lip, since the surgery in Boston it has been very tight and actually effects my speech as it is like having a permanent fat lip. So there you have it, I am stiill living in hope I can find a really "good surgeon" who can remove this terrible eyelid graft, pull up my cheeks, do something with the vertical scar to the other lids, and improve the condition with my upper lid, hence why I am on this site, so far I have spent so many thousands of pounds with the cost incurred in Boston, then here, I really want something to go right, even if I cant get all the problems fixed, the more that can be done the better and I will pay anything to achieve this.

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

Hello,
This is certainly something that you would not want to enter into lightly. My main advice would be to research, and keep on asking questions. It’s generally a a good indication of the responsibility and professionalism of a surgeon that your concerns are discussed in detail before any operation takes place and you are aware of any complications or side effects that may occur, no matter how rare.
If answers are hard to come by then I’d advise you to consider this as a warning sign and start looking for a different surgeon. After all, you can take as long as you want selecting a surgeon you feel comfortable with, but you will be living with the results for the rest of your life.
With regards to getting cosmetic surgery abroad. Yes there are certainly some massive savings to be had in comparison with standard US and UK prices. My advice would be to investigate this through a reputable company that have direct connections with the surgeon in the country you want to go to. Such companies will often help you org anise your entire trip and look after you during your stay.

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

Hi,
I totally agree with backsmith, its definitely about the research! I went to goodsurgeonguide.co.uk when I was considering my B/A. They had loads of client reviews and ratings on particular surgeons, and it really helped in the selection process!

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

Hi,

If you are going to have an appointment with a cosmetic dentist you should know what to expect. There are many things that patients who go to cosmetic dentists go through in their appointments. These include various examinations and discussions that involve teeth and the needs that one has for cosmetic dentistry.

Various examinations are going to be used in a typical cosmetic dentistry visit. X-rays are used to help with allowing the dentist to get a better idea of the conditions that the patient's teeth are in.

The use of intraoral photographs is common in many visits with cosmetic dentists. These photographs are taken through a camera that goes into the patient's mouth so that it will be easier to get a closer look at the teeth that the patient wanted to get worked upon. Photographs can also be used to check on the gums of the patient.

Impressions of your teeth can be used in many cases as well. An impression works in that your teeth are placed in a plaster model that will be used to help the dentist to see what patterns are featured among your teeth. This is important for teeth straightening purposes.

Re: COSMETIC SURGERY

My teeth are crooked and I am considering getting porcelain veneers.  I am concerned that I will be overcharged for this procedure, and am not sure where to seek advice.  What questions should I ask the dentist during my consultation?
