Britain's youngsters are increasingly turning to cosmetic surgery in a bid to follow the example of their heroes and beat the teasing bullies, it has been reported.
According to the president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), Douglas McGeorge, demand for procedures such as nose jobs, ear tucks and breast augmentation is currently soaring, with a significant proportion of those going under the knife under the age of 20.
Indeed, speaking to the Daily Mail, he revealed that demand for boob jobs among teenagers has grown by 150 per cent over the past 12 months, while he also explained that the prospect of being teased is a greater spur for having work done than looking like surgically-enhanced celebrities.
"Children are very cruel and there's a lot of stigma attached to appearance," he stated.
However, Mr McGeorge added that allowing teenagers under the age of 18 to benefit from surgery is nearly always a "last resort", with one 14-year-old having been given a £3,500 nose job after being bullied at three different schools.
