Spanish youngsters are "going mad" for cosmetic surgery treatments, with growing numbers of people openly proud of their surgically-enhanced appearances.
That is according to the Madrid-based surgeons questioned in a new report for the country's El Pais newspaper, with many supporting suggestions that the average age of cosmetics patients is steadily declining.
According to the report, some 400,000 operations are performed in Spain every year, with surgery particularly popular among Latin American immigrants keen to have 'Western' facial features, and young girls looking for a larger bust.
While such a trend is being seen all over Europe, in Spain patients are nearly all female, with male cosmetic surgery still some way behind that of the UK or the US, while the country is also benefiting from 'scalpel' tourism, with thousands of Latinos crossing the Atlantic every year to take advantage of the latest procedures.
Indeed, according to Antonio Porcuna of the plastic surgeons' association SECPRE, procedures such as breast augmentation and liposuction have become "just another consumer product".
