Growing numbers of Britons are opting to have unsightly veins in their legs treated by cosmetic surgery, experts have reported.
With the autumn set to see a rise in the number of women choosing to follow fashion trends and wear shorter-than-normal skirts, vascular surgeon Brian Newman has explained that many are likely to be held back due to a lack of confidence caused by bumpy or veiny legs.
As such, uptake of non-invasive treatments aimed at getting legs back into shape has risen by 60 per cent over recent months, with this trend also being partly driven by people looking for a confidence boost amid a general economic slowdown.
What's more, many men are opting to make use of the procedures such as thermocoagulation, which makes use of microwave technology, in order to improve their facial appearance.
"Rosacea and thread veins on the face can knock sufferers' confidence and sadly there are misconceptions about the cause of face reddening," Mr Newman told PrivateHealth.co.uk.
"I've treated patients who are worried colleagues will mistake a red nose as a sign of alcoholism and others who are concerned their acne-like rosacea is a sign of poor diet and health."
