Ricky Gervais spoke out today about his weight gain and encouraged everyone to call him fatty to help him shed the pounds.
Speaking on his podcast, he said that obesity was too accepted and the reluctance of people to make fun of fat people and point out they may be in need of a tummy tuck meant they had no incentive to lose weight.
Gervais is not resorting to weight loss surgery just yet, but is increasingly dissatisfied with his flab.
"I laugh about being fat but I should be ashamed. I should walk down the street and have people shouting 'Fatty!' That's what I want, to get me out of it. I have to throw my clothes away every three months because I get too fat for them," he said.
Around 46 per cent of men in England and 32 per cent of women are overweight and 17 per cent of men and 21 per cent of women are obese according to the Obesity Statistics UK website.
Around 6,000 people a year choose weight loss surgery such as tummy tucks and gastric band bypass operations to become slimmer.
