A new study heralds the latest development in weight loss surgery growing in popularity in the US - the removal of back fat.
Women fed up with unsightly folds of flab on their back are having the excess fat and skin removed so they can once again wear tight fitting tops and bikinis without feeling self-conscious.
The study of 22 women who had the procedure was carried out by Dr Joseph Hunstad who explained: "This redundancy of skin occurs generally from aging and cannot be exercised away. For those who desire to wear form-fitting outfits, this procedure eliminates the problem."
The precision of this type of weight loss surgery ensures the patient is left with only a discreet scar hidden by the patient's bra strap.
Weight loss surgery and other forms of cosmetic procedures increased 457 per cent in the past ten years and jumped by eight per cent since 2006 according to the American Society for Aesthetic Surgery. Despite the credit crunch, US women and a growing number of men lavished almost $13 billion on cosmetic procedures in 2007.
