Celebrities are increasingly vocal about their experiences under the knife and influencing the public to follow suit, according to the Guardian's Hadley Freeman.
Intimate details of Kerry Katona's weight loss surgery and the infamous saga of Katie Price's boob job are growing examples of celebrity interviews discussing their cosmetic surgery.
To highlight this trend, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps) published a study showing breast enlargement procedures had jumped 275 per cent since 2007.
Rajiv Grover of Baaps emphasised the link between celebrities and plastic surgery: "People used to think that breast augmentation was open only to celebrities and film stars whereas they are now aware that the procedure is open to all members of the public.
"Pictures of famous women alongside 'has she, hasn't she' headlines appear in newspapers and magazines every week. The media has made it seem real to people and raised awareness of the procedure."
In 2006, UK patients spent almost £500 million on cosmetic surgery, four times more than they did in 2001, according to the Cosmetic Surgery Bible. It predicts patients will spend over £11.5 billion on procedures by 2011.
