The credit crunch has forced many people to stop spending money on themselves, but for one mother-of-one it has actually encouraged her to undergo cosmetic surgery.
Kymm Barber-O'Reilly, 45, was made redundant earlier this year and was forced to give up her overseas property as a result.
However, far from accepting defeat, Kymm decided to undergo breast augmentation, secured a job at Transform cosmetic surgery clinic in Crosby, and is now saving to undergo liposuction.
She told the Liverpool Echo that losing her job had really knocked her confidence, but she was determined to start afresh and look her best.
"I wanted to make sure I looked my best and now I do," she revealed. "It's brilliant. The final piece in the jigsaw is to have liposuction on my tummy just to tone up."
As a clinic manager for Transform, the country's biggest provider of breast augmentations, Kymm has noticed that she is not alone in deciding to boost her assets in the face of financial worries.
"People are feeling depressed. There's enough misery around and they want to make the best of themselves and improve their lives," she explained.
"Women here want to look and feel good and will always want to find ways to bounce back."
A recent report in the Daily Mail revealed that there has been a 20 per cent rise in sales of designer lipsticks, a 50 per cent rise in St Tropez and Fake Bake sales, and a 34 per cent increase in nail polish sales since the start of the credit crunch - a clear sign that women plan to ride out the financial storm in style.
