Cosmetic and weight loss surgery provider SurgiCare has revealed that it will soon be adding the gastric balloon to its weight loss treatments.
Only two UK weight loss surgery providers offer the air-filled gastric balloon procedure, which causes fewer side-effects than the traditional liquid-filled gastric balloon.
Whereas the liquid-filled balloon can sometimes cause nausea and discomfort due to the liquid moving around, the air-filled balloon overcomes these problems.
In addition, it has a gold coating which is designed to prevent air loss, allowing the balloon to remain at maximum volume for the duration of its six-month placement.
SurgiCare chief executive Mark Bury said that the air-filled balloon is a "big step forward" for weight loss surgery.
He claimed: "The gastric balloon provides an excellent short-term aid to weight loss and delivers fantastic results when combined with the diet and exercise programme offered in our aftercare programme."
Studies have suggested that people who have had weight loss surgery should take calcium and vitamin D supplements as they may be deficient after the procedure.
