Record numbers of men seeking moob jobs
Created on 01st January 1970
According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (BAAPS), the number of men in the UK seeking gynaecomastia (male breast reduction surgery) has almost doubled in the past twelve months. The procedure saw a 44% increase in 2008, making it the fifth most popular procedure for men, after rhinoplasty (nose jobs), blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), corrective ear surgery and liposuction.
Often thought to be symptomatic of being overweight, scientists have recently revealed that 'man boobs' may have another trigger; increasing amounts of oestrogen in the environment means that the female hormone is regularly ingested in food and drink, and it is believed that this could cause a hormonal imbalance, leading to a surplus of breast tissue in some men.
