An unhappy X-factor contestant has spent thousands of pounds on plastic surgery after contest judge Simon Cowell criticised her appearance during her previous audition on the popular show.
After Cowell's hurtful remarks, 23 year old Katrina Lee had laser cosmetic surgery on her face, liposuction and dental work. She also hired a personal trainer in order to lose two stone so that she could look her best for the initial X-factor auditions this summer. She also dyed her blonde hair bright red so that she would stand out.
Katrina, a shop worker from Belfast auditioned for X-factor 5 years ago but was stunned when Simon Cowell told her he wished he could put her voice 'in someone else's body.' Despite Cowell's reputation for nasty, cutting comments on the show, his remarks were considered very cruel - even by his standards - and Katrina's audition made headlines in the papers.
After that audition, Katrina - then just 18 years old - lost her confidence and even went on to battle an eating disorder. She says that she doesn't think Cowell meant to be so nasty. In an interview she said: 'He seemed really shocked how his comments had affected me.'
However, Katrina has come back from that low point and says her cosmetic surgery has really helped boost her confidence.
'Since then I've had laser treatment and liposuction and I've come back a new person.
'When he saw me this time he said I was a good-looking girl. I went through so much after his comments the last time. I was 18 and they really hit me hard.'
Five years after her first fateful audition, a newly confident Katrina chose to sing Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares 2 U for the judges and the live audience.
She was a hit and has made it through to the boot camp on this year's X Factor, but she still doesn't know if her plastic surgery will help her through to the final.
Katrina admits to being very happy with her new look though. She said: 'Now I'm delighted. It's been through a lot, including facial surgery. I've gone to every extreme to get to this point.'
