Boob jobThe Harley Medical Group has recently reported a rise in requests for breast augmentation surgery meaning the procedure retains its position as the most popular cosmetic surgery operation requested by women in the UK.

Surgeons claim that the rise in popularity of boob jobs is down to an increase in post pregnancy plastic surgery. Apparently new mums now make up around 60% of all breast augmentation patients.

One example of this is Angela Fry from Berkshire. Ms Fry, 38, had a boob job after having her fourth baby. She said:  "After each birth my shape changed dramatically and my breasts sagged and lost their shape completely. For me, having a breast augmentation wasn't about getting bigger breasts but getting them back to the shape and size that was right for my figure. Having the surgery has made me feel more feminine and given me much more confidence in myself."

Today breast augmentation is the most popular form of cosmetic surgery for women in the UK. The procedure involves the surgeon making an incision in the crease under the breast where the implant is inserted into a pocket. If the plastic surgery is successful then the breasts will end up bigger and more evenly shaped. Most women only want to increase by a couple of cup sizes but in some cases the breasts can be dramatically enlarged with cosmetic surgery.

A breast augmentation typically takes around three hours to perform, depending on the size of the breasts. The operation is carried out under general anaesthetic and after having it patients usually stay in hospital for one or two nights. After having this form of plastic surgery, patients have to wear a supportive bra for up to three months in order to support the breasts while they heal.

Famous women who have had boob jobs include Katie Price, aka Jordan, Victoria Beckham - who is rumoured to have undergone 3 breast operations - and Pamela Anderson.
