A recent survey conducted by a cosmetic surgery group has revealed that a staggering 83 per cent of women who have thought about having plastic surgery would consider having liposuction.
The survey which was carried out on behalf of Linia, a cosmetic surgery group, aimed to look at British people's perceptions of plastic surgery - and it's thrown up some very interesting results.
One of the main surprises was the increased interest in plastic surgery by men.
It's liposuction that's the most favoured procedure by British people with both men and women putting it top of their plastic surgery 'wish list.' Of the people surveyed, over 46 per cent of men said that they would consider plastic surgery - whereas only 45.5 per cent of the women asked said that they would think about having it.
These figures show that men's attitudes towards plastic surgery are changing and becoming more open - possibly due to added pressure from areas of society such as the media and the increasingly competitive job market.
Out of all the British countries, Scotland had the highest percentage of those surveyed who would like liposuction, with around 50 percent of Scots saying that they would consider it. Wales was in second place with 33 per cent with the South having the lowest figures.
Liposuction has become increasingly popular in recent years. As lifestyles in the Western world become more sedentary, British figures are getting bigger and obesity figures are rising. However, even for those who eat healthily and exercise there can be some areas of the body that retain stubborn fat deposits that refuse to shift - and this is where liposuction can play a part.
In women, areas of the body that hold on to fat deposits are most commonly the hips, the inner and outer thighs, the upper arms, the buttocks, the stomach and 'love handles' and, particularly in older women, the knees.
Men generally have a lower percentage of body fat than women so theirs tends to stay around the stomach and waist, under the chin and sometimes on the chest.
Liposuction is popular as it can target these areas and permanently remove the fat cells.
