A dental receptionist in Beverly Hills was saved by her
D-cup breast implants when a gunman ran into the dentist's office and opened
fire.
Lydia Carranza was shot at point blank range with a semi-automatic assault rifle, but one of her silicone implants took the full force of the blow and prevented the bullet from reaching any of her essential organs.
The attacker was in the dentist's office looking for his wife, one of Ms Carranza's colleagues, who was killed in the shooting.
Surgeon Dr Ashkan Ghavami told the Los Angeles Times that Ms Carranza, who underwent a breast augmentation several years ago to take her from a B- to a D-cup was "one lucky woman. The bullet fragments were millimetres from her heart and her vital organs. Had she not had the implant, she might not be alive today."
The alleged gunman, Jaime Paredes, is awaiting trial on charges including murder following the shooting in July.
