In 2006 I tried-out to appear on the TV makeover programme '10 Years Younger', but was left devastated when, during the audition process my age was guessed to be 60 years old when I was only 49 at the time. I didn't get on the show, was absolutely gutted about how I looked and fell into a deep depression.
Just weeks later, I suffered another devastating blow after finally plucking up the courage to visit a plastic surgery clinic to ask about a full face-lift. I was told that because I didn't have enough facial volume (due to ageing) they would be unable to carry out the procedure.
On top of all of this, my daughter, who is 12 years old, had begun to compare me to other mum's who were considerably younger than me. I had to run the daily gauntlet of the 'yummy mummy's' at the school gates and felt that I looked more like my daughter's grandmother and became increasingly embarrassed to be seen picking her up from school. I felt that my daughter wasn't proud of her mum.
I felt as if I had nowhere to turn, and as a very last resort I visited the FACEmed Clinic in 2008. I had a consultation with Monica Berrangé, and we agreed on a non-surgical procedure calledFACE Y-Lift using Sculptra, which gives a much more natural, longer lasting result and restores facial balance.
Monica said this procedure is carried out specifically to correct facial ageing including loss of fat and volume distribution, hollow temples and eyes, lost definition in the cheeks, and sagging jowls and neck, all of which affected me.
With the full backing of my daughters, I received four treatments over a period of 12 months. As the results occurred gradually and looked so natural, I didn't even tell my husband until after I'd had all four treatments!
This treatment really has changed my life and helped me to change my lifestyle too. I have now given up smoking and make sure I wear sunscreen every day.
I take more pride in my appearance, wearing make-up which used to sink into the hollows of my face before, and I follow a skincare regime. Following a recent holiday, I even allowed my family to take a few snaps of me, which would never have happened before the treatment!
As the results are so natural looking, I get constant comments from friends who say 'you look really good' or 'you look glowing'. My daughters have really noticed a boost in my confidence and I'm much happier, particularly at the school gates! I finally feel like a mum my daughters can be proud of.
