Cosmetic Surgery Today: Everything You Wanted To Know About Cosmetic Surgery

Breast Implants

Breast implants are made of an outer layer of firm silicone, and there are two types of implant filler available in the UK - silicone gel and saline. Silicone implants can be either firm which contain a more solid, jelly-like gel or soft which are filled with a more fluid-like gel. Saline implants may be pre-filled or filled through a valve at the time of surgery.

One advantage of the silicone implant is that it is less likely to wrinkle and feels more natural.

As the solution in saline implants is similar in consistency to natural body fluids, it can be absorbed safely into the body if the implant ruptures but a possible complication with saline implants is that over time the implants can decrease in volume and they are also more prone to wrinkling.

Breast implants are available in a variety of shapes - either round or tear drop - and sizes and your surgeon will discuss with you which implant is appropriate for you.
