Fat Transfer
Fat transfer to the face can be an effective way to reduce wrinkles and scars caused by acne and also can help in regaining a more youthful appearance. This is done by taking (harvesting) fat cells from one area of the body, usually the tummy or thighs, to another to fill in wrinkles or scars, as well as fill in lips and cheeks.
It has been used as a means of adding volume for many years but is prone to unpredictable results. More consistently successful techniques have been developed that ensure the long-term survival of the fat cells but it is crucial to see a practitioner that is very experienced in this procedure.
Larger-scale fat transfer to the breasts has been receiving media attention but the success of this procedure is still being monitored. As more fat is grafted into the breasts then there is a much higher chance that the fat cells will not survive as they need to be connected to a blood supply. There is also concern that it makes mammograms more difficult than conventional breast implants.
