Gastric Balloon
Weight loss surgery or obesity surgery is growing in popularity in response to the growth in obesity levels in the UK.
A gastric balloon is a non-surgical alternative to other weight loss options such as a gastric band or gastric bypass. A gastric balloon is a balloon that is inserted into the stomach and inflated, thus reducing the stomach's capacity, and therefore the amount of food a person can comfortably eat. This is ideal for people who want to lose weight but would prefer to avoid surgery.
It is fully reversible unlike other bariatric surgeries and there is no recovery period, although it will take time to adjust to the sensation of the balloon. It is used as a temporary solution as it encourages weight loss and a long-term change in the patient's eating habits.
