AKA
Belly Button Surgery
What is it?
We are constantly force fed images of celebrities and models looking perfect from head to
toe and everywhere in between and, as a result, there is now
a cosmetic surgery solution
to pretty much any complaint
a patient could possibly make about their face or body.
Don’t like the shape or size of your belly button? Prefer
an ‘innie’ to an ‘outie’? Now
it is is possible to change the appearance of your belly button with an umbilicoplasty.
An umbilicoplasty may
be performed as part of an Abdominoplasty or Body Lift procedure or it can be performed alone.
Who is suitable?
The belly button is formed at birth, but extreme changes
in weight or the effects of pregnancy on this area in particular, can result in alterations in the appearance of the navel.
An umbilicoplasty is suitable for any man or (more usually) woman who is unhappy with their belly button and finds it is affecting their ability to wear certain clothes or reveal their bodies to others.
What’s the treatment like?
The procedure can take up to an hour but it is usually performed under local anaesthetic as any pain or discomfort is easy to control.
The position of the belly button can be changed either by removing the surrounding skin or by making incisions in the belly button itself and removing skin and tissue if the shape is to be altered or an ‘outie’ is made into an ‘innie’.
The surgeon will then use sutures to hold the belly button in its new position.
What happens afterwards?
A light dressing will be applied
to the area and you will be discharged immediately.
Any stitches the surgeon makes will probably be dissolvable so there will be no need for a return trip
to the hospital. You will be back to all normal activities within a week.
Will I have a scar?
Probably not, as the surgeon will usually make any incisions within the belly button.
